A couple of months ago I started to write about Newt. At that time I felt he was articulate, seasoned and possibly the best opponent to defeat the Anointed One. The chase after power, fame and riches is a carnivorous one. There are some values, some virtues, some realities we cannot sacrifice. The sub-text of this blog is Truth, Beauty, Goodness. These are timeless realities that reflect the transcendent. Epoch battles have been fought for millennium. Different faces and times can obscure what is really happening but the battle is still the same. I believe our life, our lives, come from a Creator. This Creator gives and sustains that life. We owe it to him to play our part. There is a B movie I have seen many times called The Prophesy starring Christopher Walken and Elias Koteas. The story is essentially that Gabriel has started a second war in heaven . He has betrayed God and has divided the angels. It’s entertaining and utterly fictitious. There is a memorable line at the end that the Koteas’ character utters. “We are not here to know the mysterious plan of God. We just need to know our part in it”. We can only know it with God’s guidance and grace. We must be satisfied with that. Beyond this is all ego.
This year will decide part of that. America is an interesting country with a singularly interesting history. Its proponents celebrate it. It opponents castigate it and want it changed. America’s critics want to feel good, bring “fairness” to all and believe in the oppressor/oppressed paradigm. The current occupant of the White House also believes this. This paradigm is a dangerous one. It impacts truth, freedom and above all life. Why? Because it puts man at the center and ignores God. This is beyond religious polemics. It is also contradictory to human nature. Not to sound too trite but Socialism does not work. Those who think socialism and big government can deliver “fairness” are being lied to. They will give up personal freedom to attain this proposed ideal. Once you give up your freedom it is difficult, if not impossible to get it back.God gave us freedom. He does not want us to give it up.
Presidential elections are not only about the candidate but about the philosophy they bring and the people they will bring in to enforce that philosophy. The question each of us must ask is who of the people aspiring to be President reflects and will work to sustain what we believe is essential to our lives now and in the future. I have grown very cynical about politics. I really haven’t changed my feelings on this. But I cannot ignore the historical nexus we are in. I ask myself daily can we survive the changes we already have seen and will see again, unbridled, if the current power sharers stay in power. Or is there a way to stop this or slow it down. If you believe, yes then Vote, if not then ignore the present at your own danger. It is about choice.
So of the two viable candidates who do you like. I actually, overall, like Santorum. This is a good and decent man who embraces God and life. But he does not know the rigors of power. Romney has shown he does. I like Newt also but he appears to lack the wiliness of Romney. Any of the three will be better than the Anointed One. I live in California. My vote as far as the electoral college goes is a waste. But for the sake of my soul I need to say NO to the aggression that we are experiencing. The naked grab for power is beyond anything I have witnessed in my lifetime. This is beyond politics. It is still about power, fame and riches. This is the year for all of us to make a choice. …g
